Monday's 12-game MLB slate is thin on marquee pitching matchups, and that's exactly why the player prop market is worth a look. Several hitters are riding real form into genuinely soft spots, and a couple of pitchers are locked into predictable roles. Here are eight props we like, and the reasoning behind each — plus the ones on the board we're staying away from.
Carson Kelly, Under 0.5 Singles (STL) — Cardinals vs. Cubs, 7:45 p.m. ET, -119
Kelly has failed to record a single in 15 of his last 16 games, the deepest sample on tonight's board. Cardinals catchers aren't typically slap-hitters, and Kelly's profile skews toward walks and occasional extra-base pop rather than sneaking one through the infield. St. Louis starter Matthew Liberatore (5-7, 5.18 ERA) isn't overpowering, but that cuts against contact-heavy singles as much as it helps them — hittable pitching tends to produce loud outs and extra-base hits, not routine singles, from this type of hitter.
Xavier Edwards, Over 0.5 Singles (MIA) — Marlins vs. Phillies, 6:40 p.m. ET
Edwards has gone over in 12 of his last 13 games at home, a contact-first profile that travels well against most arms. The matchup is tougher than it looks on paper — he's facing Phillies ace Zack Wheeler — but singles props for high-contact hitters are one of the more matchup-resistant bets on the board; Wheeler misses bats, but Edwards' game is built around putting the ball in play the other way, not power.
CJ Abrams, Over 0.5 Runs (WSH) — Nationals vs. Blue Jays, 6:45 p.m. ET, -119
Abrams is the hottest hitter on this entire board — he's hit the over on five separate markets over his last 7 games. We're isolating one prop rather than recommending you parlay all five, since they're really one signal (Abrams is locked in) counted five ways. The runs prop stands out because Toronto is throwing Max Scherzer, who's listed at 0-0 — a record that typically signals a return from injury or a rehab-style outing with a shortened pitch count. A capped Scherzer start is a green light for the middle of the Nationals' order to see the game open up late.
Andruw Monasterio, Over 4.5 Fantasy Score (BOS) — Red Sox at Athletics, 9:40 p.m. ET, -119
Boston just tied its 1946 franchise record with a 15-game winning streak, and Monasterio has hit this number in 8 straight games riding that wave. Tonight's matchup makes it easier, not harder: Athletics starter Jack Perkins carries a 6.75 ERA, one of the softer arms on the entire slate. A rolling lineup against a struggling starter is close to the ideal setup for a role player's counting-stats prop.
George Kirby, Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (SEA) — Mariners at Rangers, 2:35 p.m. ET, -119
Kirby has gone over in 10 of his last 11 outings, and that's as much about usage as stuff — he's a workhorse who consistently works deep into games, which means more innings and more opportunities to allow hits even when he's pitching well. That volume trend is more reliable than betting on any single start's quality.
Slade Cecconi, Under 88.5 Pitches Thrown (CLE) — Guardians at Reds, 7:10 p.m. ET, -119
Cecconi has stayed under this number in 9 of his last 10 starts, reflecting a Cleveland pattern of tight pitch-count management with its rotation this season rather than anything specific to tonight's opponent. That's a trend built on organizational usage, which tends to be stickier than a matchup-based read.
Walbert Ureña, Over 4.5 Strikeouts (LAA) — Angels vs. Astros, 9:38 p.m. ET, -119
Ureña is confirmed as the Angels' probable starter tonight opposite Houston's Tatsuya Imai, and he's cleared this number in 5 straight starts at home. Confirmed starter, home park, established recent form — this is the cleanest role-and-usage prop on the board.
Bryce Harper, Under 0.5 Singles (PHI) — Phillies at Marlins, 6:40 p.m. ET, -119
Harper hasn't recorded a single in 7 straight games, which tracks with where his game is right now — he's an extra-base and home run threat first, and at this stage of his career the routine ground-ball single isn't part of his profile. Facing Miami's Tyler Phillips doesn't change that; if Harper hits the ball hard, it's more likely to go for extra bases or an out than a single.
Bets we're passing on: Colby Thomas' Under 4.5 Fantasy Score and A.J. Ewing's Under 0.5 Singles both carry gaudy hit rates built on near-zero playing time (0.7 and 0.0 averages) rather than a repeatable skill — that's a bench-role bet, not a form bet, and it can evaporate the moment a lineup changes. Marcus Semien's Under 4.5 Fantasy Score is a name to watch but not to bet blind: he's a top-tier hitter in a cold stretch, and unders on great players carry snap-back risk that unders on limited role players don't.
